Static Pass Box

A vital component in a cleanroom setup, the Static Pass Box is a key piece of Cleanroom Equipments used when materials have to be moved between controlled zones in the absence of active airflows, which helps maintain a contamination-free environment. These have a dual-door interlocking mechanism that ensures only one door remains closed when the other is in use, thus helping prevent cross-contamination.

In processes that take place in the absence of air, where contamination control is very critical, Static Pass Boxes provide a reliable and cost-effective solution for transferring tools, components, or documents between cleanroom areas of equal classification. Made mostly of tough stainless steel with smooth internal surfaces, they are easy to clean and suitable for creating sterile environments. They are often equipped with visual door status and mechanical/electromechanical interlocks that support standard operating procedures and reduce the chances of human error.

Static Pass Boxes are standard equipment in pharmaceutical labs, electronics assembly units, and the manufacturing of medical devices. In such conditions, they help preserve cleanliness classifications and streamline workflow without introducing additional variables like airflows into the cleanroom ecosystem.

Working Principle of Static Pass Box

Static Pass Boxes are essential components in cleanroom setups designed for the safe transfer of materials between rooms with equal cleanliness levels. Unlike dynamic versions, static pass boxes have no built-in air circulation or filtration systems, relying on interlocking door mechanisms to prevent simultaneous opening, thereby minimising the risk of cross-contamination. These enclosures act as a buffer, helping maintain pressure differentials and cleanliness integrity in cleanrooms. Ideal for establishing cleanliness standards, SPBs are an effective solution for maintaining cleanliness during material movement without active airflows.

A Static Pass Box helps the safe transfer of materials between two clean areas with different requirements while maintaining the cleanliness and pressure conditions of both spaces. Items to be passed are first placed inside the pass box, and the door is closed. The interlocking system ensures that the opposite door cannot be opened till the first door is fully closed, thus preventing both doors from opening at the same time and increasing the chances of contamination. Once the first door is locked, the second door can be opened from the other side to safely remove the item. Such sequencing blocks any direct airflow between the two rooms and reduces the risk of contamination.
