An air shower is a specialised equipment installed in a room that opens into another, larger, and primarily action-oriented chamber, the cleanroom. Located in the smaller room, the air shower blows away particulate contaminants from any personnel or equipment entering the cleanroom environment before they proceed further. It works by letting out high-velocity HEPA or ULPA-filtered air at high speeds through strategically placed nozzles, removing contaminants from surfaces that are encountered.
Depending on the model, such as a Side Mounted Air Shower or Top Mounted Air Shower, nozzles are placed for maximum coverage. The displaced particles are then collected by a low-level exhaust system, ensuring they do not enter the cleanroom environment. Timed interlocking doors prevent simultaneous entry and exit, maintaining the correct utility of the cleanroom.
